All you Need to Know about Religion in the UAE
Abu Dhabi churches abound! Since Abu Dhabi is a Muslim country you may wonder if you can go to church there? They have a very active Christian community and it’s been there for decades.
The government of Abu Dhabi welcomes all religions as does the entire UAE.
Can you go to church in Abu Dhabi? -yes most definitely? How open is the UAE society to religions other than Islam? -they are very respectful of different opinions.
St Andrew’s Church Abu Dhabi
Land provided by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, is the home of St Andrew. It was first opened the 60’s. There is a library (English) and a second hand store.
Friday at 10:30 am
Sunday at 10:00am and 6:00pm
All services are in English and if you didn’t know you were in Abu Dhabi, you’d think you were at home.
St Mary’s Catholic Church
St Mary’s Catholic Church offers 50 groups that congregate during the week at St Andrew’s. They have services in many languages such as Hindi, Arabic, Urdu, Tagalog and Korean. Service
Second and fourth Monday each month at 5:30pm
Evangelical Community Center
Another community you can visit is the Evangelical Community Centre. The center was begun by the Sherbeck family in the 1970’s and has no official denomination.
Friday at 8:30 am from September to May Friday 10:15 am year around
They have a full bible study program and a Christian education program that is open to everyone. They conduct prayers in a variety of different languages including Afrikaans, Filipino and Mandarin.
St Joseph’s Center
St Joseph’s Center is the oldest Abu Dhabi church. Its has over one hundred thousand Catholics visit from around the world.
English Mass -Monday through Wednesday at 6:30 am and 7:00 pm, Thursday at 6:30 am and 6:45 pm, Saturday at 6:30 am.
They also have mass every Friday through Sunday in English, Arabic, Tagalog, Urdu and Malayalam.
Children’s mass is held on Friday’s at 10:15 am & Sunday at 6:00 pm.
Mass for Konkani, French, Tamil and Singhalese throughout the month.
So as you can see Abu Dhabi churches do exist and it is no problem to continue your faith in the UAE.
